What do I need to know about driving in the Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are a favorite destination for tourists in the Sunny Caribbean, and the Islands are very well developed, in particular on the Western side of Grand Cayman, the largest of the Islands. There are many car rental agencies to hire and you are strongly recommended to do so, to get the maximum from the Islands. All major car rental companies are there, and you can browse book or to recruit in the day, easy and convenient.

For American visitors, there are some things you need to know in advance, before you start, the movement of the Caymanian roads.

In the first place unless you have a license for international drivers, you must obtain a driving permit visitor. This is valid for six months and will allow you to legally operate a motor vehicle on the Islands.

Your United States driving licence is not valid for the Cayman Islands, and if you're traveling with him will be driving illegally and will face stiff fines and penalties, if you are caught.

You can easily get visitors driving permit from the Agency for rental car, and the cost is very small-a few Cayman Island dollar (the currency is the Cayman dollar, denoted as CI $ and is not the same as the US dollar).

Children under the age of 12 years must be managed in the rear seating and to wear seatbelts. If your child is at the age of three, the child must manage the seat for the car by safety suitable for the child's age and weight, and it must also be correctly installed. These requirements are the responsibility of the driver.

The main difference in movement, the Cayman Islands is that they are managed from the left-hand side of the road (we drive on the right). This usually is not the source of any difficulties, but this means you need to pay additional attention to driving and don't forget to check on the road in both directions in order (it's easy to forget and look in the wrong direction and forget the traffic is coming from the opposing side of the flow of traffic).

"Roundabouts or rotaries are common in the Caymanian roads, and they may present some difficulties to drivers who are unused to them. Enter them slowly and carefully and will proceed in a clockwise direction. Vehicles entering the roundabout on the right side are given priority and must give way to them before you enter the roundabout for yourself. You must use your blinkers ("performance") to signal its intention to exit roundabout.

You are allowed to turn left red light traffic stops, provided it is safe to do so. You must come to a complete stop before proceeding, however (not rolling stop) and give way to oncoming traffic with each priority.

Never driving must be carried out; However, there are extremely stiff penalties for this. This includes prison time and deportation for visitors, depending on the seriousness of the offence.
